• copy the {openbiblio}/locale/en to {openbiblio}/locale/en_utf
• modify the {openbiblio}/locale/en_utf8/metadata.php

Setup the library

• Click the admin label
• login the default admin account
• click the library settings
  • Locale: switch to English_utf8
  • HTML Charset: modify iso-8859-1 to utf-8
• click the Update button

When create DB (for MySQL5)

SQL:

 create database openbiblio CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci;

Modify PHP source

add line: $rc = Query::act( 'SET NAMES UTF8' ); so that all connection will be UTF8

Validation

• click the Cataloging label -> New Bibliography
• add a new Bibliography in Chinese
• & search Bibliography Search in Chinese
• Check MySQL DB table biblio, to see if the string stored in Chinese. You can use freeware Toad for MySQL to do it.
• Try again in Simplified Chinese
